Heart Cushion

I'm in the middle of making this little cushion with a heart appliqué design on the front. My brand new sewing machine, that I had so much hopes for, has clapped out and until it's repaired I am doing the sewing by hand, an art I haven't quite mastered yet, so I don't think this little cushion is going to be durable enough to last through the ages... but it'll certainly be pretty...

I made a birdie!!

Look at him! He's glorious... I got the design from the book Sew! by Cath Kidston. He's filled with lots of lovely lavender and will spend the rest of his days in my sister-in-law's sock drawer...

Fabrics! Sewing Machine! Cath Kidston!

Shame on me for not writing! I've been getting books - Sew! by Cath Kidston and The Complete Book of Patchwork Quilting & Applique by Linda Seward, both fine books.

and collecting fabrics...
And t'other day I bought a sewing machine!

I've just been practicing on it today...

Obviously... I need a lot more practice before I'm let loose on a real project...

Further updates soon!

Gran's Book

I vaguely remembered my granny Bridie giving me a book on crafts when I was doing my cross stitch project for home economics in the leaving cert, and after a bit of foraging around, I found it!
There's some nice little projects in it that I might have a crack at.

My Mission

I was toying with the idea of sewing my very own patchwork quilt. I've always liked them and seeing as I'm doing very little else it seems like a good idea to start one. Why the hell are you telling me, you may ask? Well, making it public knowledge that I'm planning on doing this will help keep me motivated, similar to the way a dangerously obese person might publicly declare that they will no longer be eating chips.

I have no equipment so I'm going to gradually buy any materials I might need. Why not buy everything at once I hear you cry? Because I'm poor.

So off I pop!

Update:  The patchwork quilt has been put on hold indefinitely because my sewing machine is broken :(
I'm hoping that Santa will be good enough to get me a new one.
